History of Humberside Airport

Humberside Airport has a rich aviation history, dating back to its origins as a Royal Air Force base. It was originally opened in 1941 as RAF Kirmington, serving as a base for No. 166 Squadron during World War II, where it played a key role in bomber operations. After the war, the airfield was closed and later re-opened for civilian use in 1974, becoming Humberside Airport.

Since then, it has grown into a modern international airport, serving commercial flights and providing an important connection for regional travel. Over the years, the airport has developed comprehensive aviation facilities, including instrument approach procedures, and continues to operate both commercial and general aviation flights, making it a versatile base for a wide range of pilot training.

AeroSchool Humberside

At AeroSchool Humberside, students benefit from training in a fully operational international airport, gaining valuable experience with controlled airspace, ATC communications, and instrument procedures. The airport’s mix of commercial and general aviation traffic offers the perfect training ground for pilots looking to advance their skills in PPL, Night Rating, or Instrument Rating courses.

As part of training with AeroSchool, students will also have the opportunity to fly into our other bases, including Breighton Airfield, where students can experience the challenges of operating in an uncontrolled airfield environment with a grass runway. This provides a well-rounded training experience, allowing students to develop skills for both controlled and uncontrolled environments, ensuring they become versatile and confident pilots.

With our expert instructors and top-class facilities, AeroSchool Humberside is an ideal place for students to immerse themselves in a professional flying environment, preparing for both private and commercial aviation roles.
